sikahema. >> and i'm tracy davidson. >> we are running school delays along the bottom of the screen right now. over the last 15 minutes we are really beginning to get the calls in from the schools. and we have light rain moving in as temperatures hover right around the freezing mark or just below freezing in some areas north and west. not an issue in the city but temperatures are above freezing by a few degrees in philadelphia. 35 as we look at philadelphia international. but parts of south jersey, extreme northern new castle county and delaware many areas north and west are seeing temperatures right around freezing. so icing to start with. freezing rain is going to be an issue. as you mentioned tracy, the majors no problem treating those and keeping them ice-free. but any of the side streets and some untreated sidewalks are going to be an issue. you can see all the pink

coloring, that's the freezing rain that we're dealing with this morning, some spots may see some sleet to begin with. allentown has seen a wintry mix, but it's the freezing rain there that is going to cause more problems than anything this morning. 34 now just coming down a degree in philadelphia. it's below freezing in pottstown. expect icy conditions in pottstown, trenton, mount holly, wilmington also down a degree at 33 degrees. could see some icing in delaware this morning. a mix at 7:00. 34 degrees. by 9:00 temperatures slowly climb. so whatever is freezing to start with it will just become plain rain. and more areas will see just the plain rain as we head into the noontime hour with temperatures climbing. we'll go through hour by hour with the future weather. i'm back in ten minutes with the first alert traffic center reporter jillian mele. as anticipated, things are changing by the minute in chester county with another accident to tell you about in

west sadsbury. crews are still responding to this scene on zion hill road between zook road and farm lane. this is likely going to be shut down. as soon as i get word of that and the alternate route, i'll pass that along. this is a weather-related accident as a vehicle spunout and caused that accident out in the area. so that's something to keep watching for. we also have an accident on route 1 oxford bypass northbound side. route 41 is going to see part of that ramp blocked as well. plymouth township we have an accident at hallman avenue and pastell lane. and the majors are still looking pretty good. we are not reporting any serious accidents there. vai? the click conditions could be a morning rush hour nightmare for drivers this morning. right now traffic is moving along nicely along i-36 near center city. katy zachry is patrolling the area in sky force 10 right now

in chester county. how are things looking out there? >> reporter: the majors in and around philadelphia are pretty good, but take a look along 113 south here in chester county where as we go down the hill, we'll take it easy because we saw cars around us slipping on some of the hills. so definitely there are some slick and icy spots that we are encountering. we got out of the car and were walking along some untreated surfaces, and they were very very slick. so the majors for the most part 476, even your primary roads like route 1, 202 they are pretty much treated with salt. we are seeing some plows at this early hour just salting some of the areas that may have not been treated. so that is food if you are on the majors, but when you get off the majors on the secondary roads like route 113, we're getting on route 30 right now. and we're headed west toward

downey county and coatesville. we'll take it easy and are seeing cars sliding around us. katy thanks. we want to show you conditions across the area right now. this is a live picture from new council county from the network of traffic cameras. they also say they have 43 tons of salt currently stockpiled and 13,000 tons is used during a severe storm. we'll take you to camden county where crews spent the overnight hours getting roads ready. crews had to treat the roads to the delaware county river. crews are always on standby ready to be deploy. and there's no shortage of supplies at the local hardware stores. last year we had plenty of snow at this point meaning many were sold out of scoops and salt. many are hoping this icy blast brings in more people.

>> we haven't had a substantial snow, so people aren't clearing the shelves yet. >> and by closing time, some people did come in to grab a few last-second supplies. you can download the first alert weather 10 app. just download it from nbc10.com to get up to the minute weather information that changes throughout the day. it is 5:05. in other news, new from overnight in philadelphia officials are looking for the cause of a house fire in the overbrooke section of philadelphia. it happened along drexel road. officials say this was difficult to fight because of horder-like conditions inside the home. nobody was hurt. happening today in salem county, a woman accused of beating up a coworker in front of her toddler in a fight caught on camera is expected in court. we have to warn you that you may find this video disturbing. lakeisha harris is charged with

domestic violence. that woman's 2-year-old child was standing nearby there and didn't try to stop the incident here. police say harris also threatened the child. the woman accused of running down the valley in king of prussia will appear in court today. jill simon snatched a valet's cell phone from his hand. when a second valet walked in front of the car, she hit the man and took off. a violent 12 hours over the weekend. police are investigating the shootings of seven people. three of the victims were killed saturday night. a woman found them dead inside her home with one being her boyfriend. meantime another shooting is under investigation in the brewerytown section as someone

shot a 21-year-old in the head on hollywood street. his name has not been released. and three people were wounded in the shooting in the nicetown section happening yesterday morning on wingohocking street after a fight inside a bar. police have made no arrests in any of the cases. ♪ the family of a bucks county teacher missing for five days held a vigil with hundreds gathering at a baseball field last night to pray for christopher tolly's safe return. he got out of his parent's car that night and nobody has seen him sense. >> with all the fliers all the social media and all, i'm just hoping that the kids doing a callout, we are hoping that he's out there and safe and that he'll reach out to somebody. >> tully is a teacher at the middle bucks institute of

technology. the delaware father of two children at the center of an amber alert is in custody and waiting to be extradited. police are still searching for their mother, keisha hamilton. she and the children disappeared on friday and the indiana state police arrested their father so the children are safe but the mother is still missing. honoring the french victims. the empire state building was lit up in red, white and blue for the french black last night. the building went dark for five minutes in remembrance of those killed in the recent terror attacks in paris. in the last half hour, we have learned that 10,000 security forces have been deployed to protect france coming a day after one of the largest demonstrations in french history. more than a million people walked arm in arm in paris yesterday and into the night. officials say more than 3

million others marched throughout france after 17 people were killed during the terror spree last week. and there are questions this morning about the terror suspects. this video shows amedy coulibaly on the isis website. he was killed friday in the hostage standoff in a kosher grocery store. he policemened allegiance to isis but two other attackers claim to be from the rival al qaeda. the two groups do not usually cooperate, officials say. and french authorities killed the two suspects but one of the accomplices is on the loose. a hayat bomeddiene could be in turkey now. the ingredients are coming together for an icy start to the commute today. we see some rain moving in light rain as temperatures have come down to freezing. but during the day it's going to be a steady rain with temperatures warming just enough

to get rid of the threat of ice. and then the evening may see some areas of snow as it gets colder and the system comes to an end. but i'm not expecting accumulation with that. rain now in reading up a degree that's good news. 34 degrees with rain falling in philadelphia. trenton is at 33 degrees. very close to the freezing mark. and you can see precipitation in the pocano mountains, this is the view from blue mountain with a mix of sleet and snow. and then some freezing rain as temperatures will slowly improve there, too. 33 in wilmington. 36, not an issue in northeast philadelphia but north and west it is colder. look at swarthmore at 32 degrees. 32 at newtown square. we'll see some icing here to start with. even saint davids is not out of the woods at 33 degrees. the ground can be a little colder. there are a few spots in south jersey and northern new castle county in delaware that could see some icing to begin with.

but more of the colder air is north and west so it is chester, delaware montgomery bucks county. more likely to be impacted by the sleet and freezing rain. and then even the allentown area started off with snow and freezing rain even into the midmorning hours. we should get a break from the rainfall. that will help any of the major roads that should be well treated. then the steadier rain is back by 9:00 in the morning with temperatures above freezing. heading into the afternoon, the middle to upper 30s later today. i've got the seven-day forecast to show you what follows this wet weather when i come back in ten minutes. thank you, bill. we've been warning you about the slick roads already this morning. we have heard of one spinout due to the slick roads. >> jill xwran me aian mele is looking at the traffic for us this morning. >> chester county seems to be a mess as far as the traffic goes. this is the unfortunate area we are talking about here of chester county with the mix of precipitation on the radar. as we zoom in you can get a

good idea of what the roads look like. route 100 at sunrise boulevard is dark out there, not many drivers, but the roads look wet. you can still run into icy patches and slippery conditions out there. so we are dealing with and accident on 422 eastbound right at route 724. unclear how many lanes may be blocked on 422 but we'll try to get more information for you. west sadsbury is shut down between zion hill and zook hill lane. we are dealing with an accident on the oxford bypass route 41 on-ramp with the ramp partially blocked. all the accidents are in chester county. so chester county is dealing with pretty slippery conditions there throughout the morning. any more accidents we get, i'll pass them along right away. thank you. 12 minutes past 5:00 count on nbc 10 to stay on top of the developing weather situation all morning long. we'll show you live pictures from across the region. eighth and market in center

rain is falling with temperatures hovering near freezing. icing north and west especially likely to start with this morning. right now just got colder here at nbc 10. 33 degrees at 5:16. and the roads could be slick on this first alert weather day. jesse gary is live in penssauken camden county for us. remind me where you are, route 38? >> reporter: right at route 38. it's right behind me here as you can see the traffic pass by me. i talked to a new jersey department of transportation plow operator who was out in the area putting down salt. so you can see the roads are wet. they are not icing up as they did a good job of pretreating the road with the salt down even though it's raining. this person right here is going too fast for conditions, and that's what i want to mention. slow down your speed a little bit because the roads are slick with salt on the roadway as you come across some wet patches.

philadelphia. we have rain falling with the temperature coming down a bit, still above freezing in philadelphia, but north and west including the pocano mountains, we are seeing a wintry mix to start with. and this will lead to icing to begin with especially in areas of pennsylvania. but some spots in camden and gloucester county and burlington county are close to the freezing mark. northern new castle county could see some icing to start with. and it's the areas north and west that are colored in pink that's where the light precipitation is freezing as it hits the ground. it falls out of the sky as plain old rain but the problem is this is much colder. and temperatures at freezing allow for that plain rain to freeze on contact. this first batch of weather will give us a break before steadier rain moves in. by then the temperatures will be higher. temperatures north and west, pottstown, doylestown right at just below freezing this morning. westchester, 31 degrees in

chester county. chester springs is 31 along with downingtown. light rainfall but just enough to produce a coating of ice. hour by hour at 10:00 this morning, most of the area is above freezing. potstown 36 degrees. steady rain into the lehigh valley. so improving conditions, but it will be a rainy day today. the temperature is up to 36 deers by 2:00. and we may go a little higher in philadelphia but not much. icing will be limited to this morning. then it is plain rain for the rest of the day. could see a few snowflakes this evening, but i don't expect any accumulation. we'll see cold temperatures tomorrow. 20s to start with. 30s in the afternoon. then a chance of some scattered showers, doesn't look like anything big for wednesday, but this should be passing to the south. clouds and sunshine thursday 38 degrees. and then finally, a break heading into the weekend, 40

degrees with partly sunny skies on friday. and enough sunshine to warm us into the middle 40s sunday. jesse gary has a live shot a few minutes ago coming down route 38. clearly they are not watching us. >> you have to take it easy. we have been saying we have been getting school delays into our system. but philadelphia public schools are still on time. but we'll check the roads as you need extra time today. jillian mele is watching that. chester county is getting slammed. so we have another accident in chester county on the route 30 bypass westbound approaching airport road. fire and police have been called out to direct that involving a vehicle that has spun out. west sadsbury is closed near zook road and farm lane. take route 41 to get around that accident. route 1 oxford northbound has the route 41 ramp partially blocked due to an accident. and route 422 eastbound at route

a rainy start and for some an icy commute. a live picture from ben salem, just to the north in newtown and just to the west in dresher, the temperature is 32 degrees. so what is falling as rain in ben salem is icing up in areas north and west. 5:24. on wall street investors are gearing up for the kickoff to a new earnings season. landon dowdy is here with the cnbc business news. landon good morning. >> tracy, good morning to you. futures point to a higher open as markets ended in the red last week. stocks struggled amidst friday's

jobs report and falling oil prices. there's no major economic data today but retail sales will be reported on inflation and the consumer earnings season kicks off with results from alcoa and jpmorgan and citigroup. the dow fell 170 points to 7073 and the nasdaq was at 3704. and general motors is looking at a new electric car to drive 200 mile os up a single charge. the car called the chevy volt will be a competitor to the other model coming out in 2017. they will show off a version of this at the detroit auto show today. back to you. >> dozens of new models are coming out and will be unveiled this week. thank you, landon. a rainy start and for some an icy start. mostly areas north and west of the city. cape may, though temperatures are above freezing and will stay
